Ophelia In The Swamp
Gentle euphoria, is what she felt
As the world fell around her.
A delightful calm, a fleeting peace
Nothing could be done.
The outcome was cast
Ophelia sang and stared into the distance
Floating, drowning, peace.
Not a care in the world as it all fell around her.
Floating, drowning, peace.
Illustration inspired by “Ophelia” by Sir John Everett Malais, and Shakespeare’s “Hamlet.” Ophelia’s tragedy lies in the way she loses her innocence, and spirals into madness, through no fault of her own.
Mother’s Interrogation Chamber
Where were you last night?
How are you feeling?
Who were you with?
What were their names?
Can you send me the address?
Did you eat?
Worms
“Worms eating you from the inside
but make it fashion!”
Said my mother one day.
“Yummy, Yummy” she said.
My stomach hurts.
Silky bows and ribbons
Tied on me for beauty
But felt like gummy worms
Under my shoes,
Thick and Gooey.
Mothers.
Always with the bows and ribbons,
"Yummy Yummy"
My stomach hurts.
